At a glance

  • Pick the Bitcoin network, not Lightning or a kBTC network, when you withdraw bitcoin to an ordinary Bitcoin wallet address.
  • Add the address by pasting it, label it, and confirm it from a device Kraken recognizes or from the emailed link.
  • Send a small test that meets the minimum first. Read the fee Kraken shows on the confirm screen before you press confirm.
  • Kraken publishes no direct support phone numbers. Treat any number you find online as a possible scam; use the Support tab in Kraken's app.

To transfer bitcoin from Kraken to a wallet you control, you copy a receive address from your wallet, add and confirm it on Kraken, send a small test on the Bitcoin network, then send the rest. Check the address and the network before every send: crypto that has been sent cannot be recovered.

What you need before you start

How to withdraw bitcoin from Kraken, step by step

As of October 2026, Kraken's help pages (opens in a new tab) describe the route below. Kraken's screens and labels can change, so use the names here as a guide to what to look for.

  1. Copy your receive address from the wallet

Open your wallet and find its receive screen. Copy the Bitcoin address it shows. Kraken accepts addresses starting with 1, 3, bc1 or bc1p. If yours looks different, read Bitcoin addresses and networks before you go on.

If your wallet is a hardware wallet, also show the address on the device's own screen later and compare it with the address you pasted into Kraken. The Trezor side of that check is in how to transfer bitcoin to a Trezor.

  2. Open the Bitcoin withdrawal screen

To send BTC from Kraken on kraken.com, go to your account's home page, open the Portfolio tab and click Withdraw. In the Kraken app, pick Bitcoin from your balances and tap Withdraw. If you do not see Bitcoin or the button, ask support from inside the app.

  3. Choose the Bitcoin network

The network dropdown can offer kBTC versions of BTC on Ethereum or OP Mainnet, and Kraken's address table (opens in a new tab) lists Lightning as a separate BTC network. Choose the Bitcoin network. The kBTC options are not ordinary Bitcoin. A withdrawal to an incompatible network can mean a permanent loss of funds, so the network must match your wallet.

  4. Add the address and confirm it

To set up a Kraken withdrawal address, choose to add a new address and give it a label that no other address on your account uses, such as your wallet's name. Paste the address and do not type it. Compare the pasted address with your wallet, as the warning above says.

Then approve it. Kraken may approve the address automatically on a device it recognizes. Otherwise it emails you a link, and the link is valid for one hour. Use the email's lock-account link only if you did not add this address yourself.

If Global Settings Lock, a Kraken setting that locks account changes, is on, Kraken will not let you add an address until you lift it. After a password change, withdrawals to new addresses can be held for up to 24 hours; addresses already saved are not affected.

  5. Send a small test

Select the saved address and enter an amount that meets Kraken's minimum. Below the minimum, the transaction cannot be processed. If Kraken asks for a code, it is the authenticator code you set up for funding, which differs from your sign-in code.

Before you confirm, find the fee and the minimum. Kraken says (opens in a new tab) the final fee is shown at the moment you confirm, so that figure is the one that counts, even if it differs from the fee page. If the screen does not make clear whether the fee comes out of the amount or is added on top, or if you cannot find the fee, do not confirm; ask support first.

  6. Track the test, then send the rest

Kraken sends no confirmation email for a crypto withdrawal. Follow the status in the Activity tab, and watch your wallet for the incoming transaction. When the test arrives, compare it with the amount you sent and the fee you were shown. If it does not match, ask support before you send more.

Then repeat the withdrawal with the rest, choosing the same saved address. Each withdrawal has its own fee and minimum.

Example with made-up numbers

The numbers below are invented and name no platform. Your platform may label and group these amounts differently.

  • You hold 0.0100 BTC. The made-up minimum is 0.0005 BTC and the made-up fee is 0.0001 BTC.
  • A test of 0.0003 BTC is below the minimum, so it cannot be processed. You raise it to 0.0020 BTC.
  • If the fee comes out of the amount, 0.0020 BTC leaves your balance (0.0080 BTC left) and 0.0019 BTC arrives.
  • If the fee is added on top, you pay 0.0021 BTC (0.0079 BTC left) and 0.0020 BTC arrives.

Look for which of the two applies on the confirm screen; if it does not say, ask support before you confirm.

Kraken's Bitcoin withdrawal fee and minimum

As of October 2026, every Kraken crypto withdrawal has a minimum amount and a fee that covers the transaction costs of moving the crypto out. Kraken lists them per coin on its withdrawal fee and minimum page (opens in a new tab); look up Bitcoin there, and make sure the row is for the Bitcoin network.

The fees can change and may differ from the page, so use the confirm screen as the final figure. For how the two kinds of cost work, read Bitcoin withdrawal fees.

Wallet ownership checks by country

When you move cryptocurrency off a crypto exchange to a wallet you control, Kraken may ask you to prove you own it. What happens depends on your country. As of October 2026, Kraken's pages set these rules. The long form is in how to send crypto to a wallet.

  • United States and Canada: follow the prompt on the withdrawal screen.
  • UK and EU: Kraken's EU and UK page (opens in a new tab) says Kraken only allows first-party transactions. You may be asked to confirm ownership of a self-hosted wallet, and deposits or withdrawals worth more than 1,000 EUR prompt the check. Your small test may fall under that figure, so the larger send can be the one that triggers it. The two methods are self-certification, a one-click confirmation with a 2FA check, or a Satoshi test, where a small crypto transaction confirms you control the wallet. After the wallet is verified, submit a new withdrawal request to the same address.
  • Australia: since 31 March 2026, Kraken's Australian page (opens in a new tab) requires extra verification for withdrawals to private wallets. Choose self-certification with your funding 2FA, or a digital signature, where you connect your wallet and sign a one-time message from Kraken. You verify once per wallet address.
  • Elsewhere: check your country's financial regulator and follow the screen's prompts.

If your withdrawal is pending or has not arrived

As of October 2026: check the Activity tab before you try again, so you do not send twice. Kraken's status page (opens in a new tab) is written for its Classic interface, so names may differ in the current app. Sending means the transaction went to the network and is waiting for a blockchain confirmation; if Sending lasts, read Bitcoin transaction pending or unconfirmed. Success means it received one, and your wallet may wait for more before it shows the coins as confirmed.

On hold means Kraken's support staff must review it; contact Kraken through the app. You can ask to cancel only while it is Initiated or Pending, and a cancellation asked for while Pending is not guaranteed. If your wallet shows nothing, copy the transaction ID (TXID, a code that identifies the transaction on the blockchain) from the withdrawal details if you can find it, and paste it into a block explorer, a website that looks up blockchain transactions.

Kraken publishes no direct support phone numbers (opens in a new tab), and a number found online claiming to be Kraken support should be treated as a possible phishing scam. Where available, a Call us option sits in the Support tab of Kraken's mobile apps.

Risks to understand

  • A wrong network. An ordinary Bitcoin address belongs to the Bitcoin network, so check the network on every withdrawal, not only the first one.
  • A swapped or look-alike address. The checks in the Stop box apply to every withdrawal, because the test only proves the address you tested.
  • Fake support. Use only the Support tab inside Kraken's own app, and read how to spot crypto scams if someone contacts you first.

Before your first withdrawal, read Bitcoin withdrawal fees and how to send crypto to a wallet.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send bitcoin from Kraken to someone else's wallet?

As of October 2026, for clients in the EU and UK, Kraken only allows first-party transfers, meaning crypto sent from one of your own accounts to another. In other countries, follow the prompt on the withdrawal screen, and if a wallet is not yours, ask Kraken support through the app before you send anything.

Do I confirm the same address again next time?

Not for an address you already saved: open the withdrawal screen and pick it from your saved addresses. As of October 2026, Kraken says verified wallets in the EU and UK, and in Australia, do not need to be verified again. If you add a new address, you confirm it again.

Can I withdraw from Kraken Pro instead?

As of October 2026, yes, Kraken documents Pro separately. Its address page describes the same idea: an address added from a trusted device is approved automatically, otherwise you click a verification link in an email. The screens differ from kraken.com and the app, so read the fee, minimum and amount on the Pro withdrawal screen before you confirm.

How long does a Kraken bitcoin withdrawal take?

As of October 2026, Kraken gives no single time. It depends on Kraken's own processing and on how many blockchain confirmations the destination needs. Watch the status in your account, and if it stops moving, follow the pending section of this guide.
