At a glance
- Choose the Ledgers export: Kraken's ledger guide records Buy Crypto button and Kraken app purchases there, so that file shows them.
- Download the file, then keep your own copy in a private folder. An export is a record of activity, not a tax calculation.
- The txid column in a ledger export is Kraken's own ledger ID. A withdrawal's blockchain TXID is found in a separate place.
- Only give a tax tool an API key with the permissions Kraken lists for exports. Leave withdrawal and trading permissions off.

To export Kraken transaction history, create a Ledgers export on Kraken's website, download the file and find your purchase, deposit and withdrawal in it. As of October 2026, Kraken sends no email when an export is ready, so you have to come back and check for the file yourself.
What you need before you start
- A computer with a web browser. Kraken's export instructions (opens in a new tab) are written for its website.
- Your Kraken sign-in details and your two-factor authentication (2FA) code, if you set one up.
- A start date before your first deposit or purchase, and today's date as the end date.
- A private folder on your computer for the file.
A CSV is a plain spreadsheet file that opens in Excel or Google Sheets. A ledger is a list of every change to your balances. For another crypto exchange's transaction history, use that exchange's own help center, because the menus differ.
How to export Kraken transaction history, step by step
Checked against Kraken's help article (opens in a new tab) in October 2026. The button and menu names below are our English wording, so yours may read slightly differently.
Open the Documents page
Sign in on Kraken's website, click your profile icon in the top-right corner, then choose Documents from the dropdown menu.
Choose the Ledgers export
In the Exports section, click the button in the top-right corner that creates a new export. Kraken's types include:
- Ledgers: deposits, withdrawals, fees and other balance changes over time.
- Trades: detailed information on executed trades, margin and non-margin.
- Balances: a snapshot of your balances on one date, with fiat equivalents where they apply.
Kraken's documents guide (opens in a new tab) also lists an account statement. For a buyer, Ledgers is the one to pick. Kraken's ledger guide (opens in a new tab) records purchases made with the Buy Crypto button or the Kraken app as ledger entries, so the Ledgers file is the one that shows them. If you also use Kraken Pro, see Kraken app and Kraken Pro.
Order history cannot be exported directly. Review your Trades export to rebuild order activity.
Set the dates and the file format
Ledgers and Trades need a start date and an end date; Balances needs one date. Set the start before your first deposit, because the help articles do not state how far back an export goes. You can filter by asset or trading pair and leave out fields, but for a complete record keep every asset and every field.
Choose CSV unless you only want to read the file. PDF is the other format.
Generate the export and come back later
Click Generate. The request appears in the Exports list as queued. Processing can take from a few minutes up to a week, and no email arrives when it is done, so reopen the Documents page and look at the list.
If the request is still not finished after a week, ask Kraken support through your account.
Download the file and keep a copy
When the export shows as ready, download it. It stays available for 14 days, so save a copy in your private folder straight away.
Open a copy and leave the original unchanged. Check that the first date is your first activity on Kraken and the last row is your latest activity inside the dates you chose. If a row you expect is missing, check that your date range covers it. Then find your purchase, deposit and withdrawal, as in the next section.
Example with made-up numbers: reading a Kraken ledger
The amounts, fee and coin below are made up. Your own file may group or label rows differently. The example uses six of the columns defined in Kraken's ledger guide (opens in a new tab): time, txid, type, amount, fee and balance. Your file has others too.
- Deposit: you buy Coin X by card and are charged $100. A
depositrow shows +$100, the full amount charged. - Spend: a
spendrow shows -$98, the amount used after a $2 transaction fee. A card purchase shows three rows:deposit, spendandreceive. - Receive: the price per coin shown on the buy screen is $2.00, so a
receiverow shows +49 Coin X. Kraken never mixes two assets in one entry, which is why one purchase takes more than one row. - Withdrawal: later you send 20 Coin X to your own wallet with a fee of 1 Coin X. A
withdrawalrow showsamount-20,fee1 andbalance28, because 49 - 20 - 1 = 28.
You paid $100 in total for 49 Coin X, which is about $2.04 per coin, against the $2.00 price shown on the buy screen.
Your own ledger rows hold the same two numbers.
A negative amount takes from that asset's balance and a positive one adds to it. The time column is in UTC, a standard time zone, so a purchase late at night or early in the morning can show a different date than your local clock. The txid column is Kraken's own ledger ID, the one shown under History, then Ledger, on Kraken's website. It is not the blockchain TXID, the ID of the transfer on the blockchain.
Kraken's ledger guide lists no column for the blockchain TXID. To find it for the withdrawal, Kraken's help article (opens in a new tab) says to sign in to Kraken Pro, open Portfolio, then the Spot tab, scroll to Funding transactions and click the entry. A window shows the details, with a button to copy the ID. That article is from April 2025, so menus may have moved.
Kraken tax forms and your export are separate
As of October 2026: Kraken does not give tax advice (opens in a new tab). For gains, losses and income, it suggests a crypto tax calculator tool, so treat your export as the list of transactions that such a tool or your tax adviser starts from. Tax forms and statements are on Kraken's websites, not in the apps, and Kraken advises opening them from a computer.
If you are a US customer, Kraken reports sales and disposals of digital assets on Form 1099-DA, starting with tax year 2025. The reporting covers activity on the Kraken exchange (Kraken.com, Kraken Pro and the related apps), not its DeFi apps. For tax year 2026 Kraken also plans to report cost basis, meaning what you paid to acquire the coin, but only for positions acquired on or after January 1, 2026. For earlier purchases, your own export is the record.
If you are tax-resident in Italy, Kraken's tax FAQ says eligible customers can download an Italian stamp duty statement. The FAQ does not say what Kraken provides in the UK, the rest of the EU, Canada, Australia or elsewhere. Open the Documents page in your account (step 1 above) to see what is listed for you. Read crypto taxes by country for the rules, and which Kraken company serves your country.
Exporting through the API
An API is a way for another program to read data from your account. As of October 2026, Kraken says (opens in a new tab) you can alternatively export your history this way. The API produces CSV or TSV files, not the PDF option on the website.
Kraken lists these API key permissions (opens in a new tab) for an export: Export data, Query ledger entries for ledger exports, and Query closed orders & trades for trades exports.
To secure the rest of your account, read how to secure your exchange account.
Risks to understand
- Personal data. The file lists your deposits, withdrawals and balances. Keep it in a private folder, and do not send it to anyone you did not choose to share it with.
- Closing the account. Kraken's closure article (opens in a new tab) points customers who need their history to the export steps. Export before you start closing, then keep your own copy; how long to keep crypto records depends on your country.
- Fake support. As of October 2026, Kraken's support team (opens in a new tab) cannot place or download an export request for you, so anyone who offers to do it is not following Kraken's process. Kraken says scammers pose as its support team (opens in a new tab), often by phone. It also advises against using a search engine to get to Kraken. Use a bookmark or type the address yourself. Read about impersonation scams.
Next, read what crypto records to keep to decide what else to save alongside your Kraken file.
Frequently asked questions
How far back does a Kraken export go?
Kraken's help articles do not state a limit. If rows you expect are missing from your file, ask Kraken support through your account.
Does a Kraken export include Kraken Wallet activity?
Kraken's export articles do not say. Its tax FAQ treats Kraken Wallet and Ink, its DeFi apps, separately from the exchange. Open your file and look for the activity you expect; if it is not there, keep the records from that wallet separately.
Can I export my history after I close my Kraken account?
Export before you start closing the account. Kraken's closure article links to the export steps and does not say what is possible afterward, so do not count on getting a file later.
